Ten ethno-cultural groups participated in the first ever Cultural Bazaar. This event showcased the amazing talent and skills our newcomers bring to the community through dance, song, and theater. The event provided the community to explore some of the diversity of the area. Participants were given the opportunity to samples foods, try some crafts, and learn about the groups.read more
June 27th was Canadian Multiculturalism Day, and so members of the Local Immigration Partnership, City Hall, the Mayor, the MPP and community members came together to celebrate “both the tremendous value that immigrants bring to Canada as well as the tremendous opportunity Canada, including St. Thomas offers immigrants.”
Over twenty people gathered in front of City Hall, where short speeches were delivered by STELIP Project Manager Petrusia Hontar, Mayor Jackson and MPP Yurek, followed by a community pledge of acceptance and tolerance read aloud by all in attendance. A raising of a “Canada 150” flag closed out the ceremony.
