Recently, over 300 people attended the Taste of Syria event in St. Thomas organized by local organization, Unite for Refugees. The event raised funds for Syrian refugee families in St. Thomas-Elgin and showcased Middle Eastern culture, food, religion and hospitality.
The friendly, welcoming atmosphere enabled guests to speak with the Muslim community, share a traditional meal and celebrate through dance and music. After dinner, the overflowing hall heard Dr. Iman Arab, a physician who previously worked in Damascus, speak about the realities facing Syrian families.read more
It's not a secret that St. Thomas residents love their city.
Since the official launch in 2015, hundreds of photos, videos and social media posts with the #stthomasproud hashtag have been shared online by residents, visitors and businesses that love it here.

West Elgin's Arts & Cookery Bank is a local hotspot for food and photography. Recently, the Fest-a-Month program brought international food and culture to enthusiastic rural residents in this idyllic country setting.
Once per month, participants were introduced to new flavours and dishes from a different country. Cuban, Eastern European, Spanish, and German Oktoberfest have recently appeared on the menu.
